Unfortunately, his business leaves him little time for his 5 year old son, Levi and 12 year old daughter, Riley, who are anguished and frustrated by their loss and not enough time with their dad to communicate their fears.If you believe in fate, you'll love the alignment of forces that throw these people together, in the same place, when Jane is hired to work as a temporary Nanny for them. The dialogue is exceptional, capturing the emotions in this volatile group.Bipolar Disorder is a difficult topic that Ms. London brilliantly explores and handles with great sensitivity. Asher's wife, Susanna lived in her own fantasy, as a result of this condition and showing the symptoms and manifestations of this illness, she is able to enable the reader to more fully understand what families must endure.This writer can go from the darkness into the light and back again, but the beauty is the blending of the two so that it shines even brighter. It's much more than a story of romance. It's a story of searching for truth and of healing. A young woman, who by her own admission, was given a wonderful life by her adoptive parents, has a driving need to seek out her birth mother and learn of her heritage. In the process she comes to love a family who has been damaged by the life and death of their wife/mother who suffered from bipolar disorder. Having had some limited experience with this, I know how what a helpless feeling it can be to love and care for a person who suffers from this problem. Julia London captured that feeling. I literally hurt for the husband who had no way of saving his wife, and for the daughter who could remember some of what her mother had done, and for the son who remembered none of it but was taunted by children repeating the gossip their parents spread.I loved the characters. The father who struggled with the aftermath of his wife's death, the five year old boy who desperately needed a mother's love, the daughter who was facing her memories while in the midst of that preteen bitchiness, and the woman whose search for her own identity brought her into their lives. I even loved the cook who didn't want anything in the house changed.After finishing the book, I felt good. Not the moon beams and sunshine kind of happily ever after, but the solid feeling these people would make it by joining together as a family. It deals with adoption and a young lady's search for her history, her mother, anything yo tell her where she came from. She learns the town she was born in and gets a job as Nanny there so she will be able to do her search.She is taking care of two children whose mother died almost two years ago in a terrible high speed car crash. The mother was Bi-polar and drank too much and tended not to take her medication.The father and the Nanny begin to fall in love, but the 13 year old daughter won't hear of it. The late wife's presence is everywhere.All these things tend to block this love and the Nanny ends up going home.Things start falling into place and, of course, love wins out. I enjoyed reading this book very much and would definitely recommend reading it.See all 35 customer reviews...
