Being stepsiblings for a short amount of time when you're a 21 and already have an attraction to one another prior doesn't make this taboo in any way shape or form. Convenient perhaps, but not taboo. Especially since the young adult relationship seems more mature than their parent's, but I digress. I didn't read Stepbrother Dearest, which seems pretty popular, because too many reviewers describe the girl as a doormat and I can't stomach doormats who patiently get their man after a book's worth of unbalanced mental abuse, so I gave this story a try instead. I can say that our girl here is not a doormat and I found myself pleasantly engaged for a couple of hours in a story that had two protagonists worthy of love with some very steamy exploratory sex scenes.Brynn and Nate both go to UVA and although Nate has never noticed Brynn, Brynn has had a crush on him since her freshmen year of college, that is until one night at a party, a very drunk Nate invites Brynn to a threesome with him and another woman. When Brynn's mother meets and marries Pierce Thornton, former congressman and wealthy entrepreneur, Brynn has some reservations about the relationship but wants to see her mother happy. Much to her chagrin, she finds herself now a step-sister to Nate, and although her mind tells her he's trouble, she can't help but fall under his charming spell.I was prepared for Nate to be jerk and he is for a while, but Brynn shows more backbone as the story progresses and the story falls into a natural progression of a relationship that is more than just sex. The family dynamics and drama are always lingering until it comes to a head towards the end and kept me engaged from start to finish. This is a very quick, light read that was also sexy and most importantly, balanced.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Thoroughly Enjoyed!By Casey CI can honestly say that I went into this story without great expectations. I found very mixed reviews on it but decided to give it a fair chance. BUT, I can happily say that it was such a very good story and I fell in love with Brynn and Nate myself!I know that some people really can't get into books that are the normal and traditional love stories. But that's what makes me glad there are other people out there like me, that really love a story with a twist. This is my third book I've read about step-sibling relationships. The first one was terrifying in such mental abuse ways, though an entertaining read...well it just kinda freaked me out a bit. The second one was so much better in the overall story and how they had come together. I really loved it. This one, being my third is right up there with the second book.Stepbrother Untouchable is shorter than most of the other books I read, so I was afraid that it was just going to be a "Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am" type of story. Luckily that is not the case. You are quick to adoring Brynn and rooting for her the whole way. Nate and Brynn have some immense sexual tension, but not overloaded amounts. It's more like a 'desirable' amount. I'm a sucker for a couple who hates each other and must learn to tolerate each other, only to fall completely in love.Brynn and Nate have great chemistry. I wasn't so sure at first because she spent a lot of time basically mooning over him. It was very naive and innocent and it honestly kind of drove me nuts. But that quickly went away as they had to interact. As they began to actually learn to be friends, I started to understand the attraction. They were a great pair.From the beginning, the relationship between Brynn's mother and Nate's father is obviously going to end in flames. When it finally did, I felt like it was a bit rushed. Suddenly all these things were happening at the end, a sort of snowball effect. The end of their relationship, as well as the dark moments of Brynn and Nate's relationship, all seemed to fly by as you approached the end. I wish it had gone by a little slower, maybe.As far as the whole "stepbrother taboo" thing goes, I just don't get it. It shouldn't even be a taboo. The parties are not related by blood. They didn't grow up together. They're literally meeting each other as adults and learning how to be family, as well as more. Doesn't seem very taboo to me.All in all, though, I enjoyed the book.
